Taichung City Cultural Center

Taichung City Cultural Center

$0.00

Maxthreads’ vision for the Taichung City Cultural Center is to create an unconventional and exceptional gathering space, animated by a public program, for visitors and inhabitants. As the entry sequence into the urban fabric, this proposal reflects the new city’s philosophy of combining nature and innovative technology.
Taichung City Cultural Center defines the northern arrival gateway to Taichung Gateway Park, providing a public hub to the overall masterplan. The Taichung City Cultural Center portrays our vision for the threshold of Taichung Gateway Park. An iconic visual corridor connects local and international arrivals at Transportation Center to the main cultural district of the city through a revived, vibrant public space.

The Taichung Inverted Cone, incorporating interactive, mixed-use public spaces that blur boundaries between each program, defines a new typology for the Library and Fine Arts Museum—“The Galibrary.” The architectural expression for Taichung’s City Culture Center—Galibrary—is inspired by the uniquely beautiful mountain-scape of Taroko Gorge National Park in Taiwan. With dramatic multi-level void spaces, these landforms establish a gateway to the landscape beyond. Maxthreads’ proposal introduces a strong relationship between the exterior and interior public spaces and integrates with the Taichung Gateway Park.
