Varese Theater Design Proposal
Varese Theater Design Proposal
The landscape pattern generates an arbitrary grid that modulates the site area with pockets for activities. Everything is subordinate to this guideline, including the theater building. The theater emerges and rises up from the ground with a sculpture form.
The theatre visually connects to the plaza and via Ravasi multi-functional area. The theater accommodates 1,500 seats and a stage tower for various kinds of performances, and it provides public space for temporary expositions on the upper level.
The complex of via Ravasi includes mixed-use residential-office building and a parking area on the podium.
A double glazing façade controls incoming sunlight, protecting the diamond-shaped building which is generated by the masterplan pattern.
The other multifunctional building includes a podium that houses commercial offices, the Ufficio ASL (Local Health Unit), and a terrace. Atop the podium rises a multipurpose hall, like a precious stone, that accommodates 350 seats.
The masterplan links and generates connection among its surrounding parts, such as the subway station and via Manzoni, and the place becomes a destination for tourists coming in by car from Malpensa International Airport.
